This July, we were honored to partner with ALIVE! for a mission close to our hearts; helping ensure no one in Alexandria goes hungry. The MKJ Homes Summer Food Drive, hosted at Dowden Terrace Pool, began as a weeklong campaign leading up to the Fourth of July. But thanks to the outpouring of generosity from our neighbors, friends, and community partners, it quickly became clear we needed more time and we were happy to extend the drive through July 13.

We’re proud to share that, together, we collected and donated 288 pounds of food to ALIVE!, Alexandria’s largest nonprofit safety net. These donations included much-needed staples like canned fruits and veggies, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and kid-friendly meal options that help bridge the gap for families during the summer months, when school meals aren’t available.

What made this effort so meaningful wasn’t just the final number, it was the heartbehind every contribution. We watched as families dropped off extra bags of groceries after a shopping trip, pool members shared the drive with friends, and local residents messaged us to ask how they could help. Every single item donated will help feed a neighbor. That’s powerful.

A huge thank you goes out to Dowden Terrace Pool, not only for hosting the drop-off site but for championing the effort with such enthusiasm. Their support helped spread the word throughout the community and gave donors an easy and convenient way to participate.

This was truly a community-powered success, and we couldn’t have done it without your generosity.

Why This Matters: Summer can be especially challenging for families who rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. The items you provided helped fill those gaps—and showed what’s possible when neighbors come together.
